Sultai is Actually Well Positioned?!!!

Alright… I’ve gotten Siege Rhino out of my system and I’m back on annoying people by never letting creatures stay on the field. Esper Dragons and Blue Black control will always be good decks, but Sultai has some its own card quality. Where else can you play Courser of Kruphix, Downfall, Languish, Jace, Silumgar, and Ashiok without feeling like you are sitting at a table with a bunch of people casting their favorite Return to Ravnica spells?
The first month and a half of origins standard has seen a new deck taking a tournament every week. Now that it has stabilized and Siege Rhino is still king…. Lets take control and flip standard upside down. The card quality is just as strong as Abzan and the delve mechanic is still a viable plan to win a tournament. Sultai can be insanely powerful, but lets narrow down the card choices.
Below are some of the cards I personally like.

THE CREATURES:

Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy – I thought this card was straight garbage, but it’s proven again and again that it is really powerful. Jeskai has seemed to provide a home to make use of his Snapcaster ability along with his looting to feed a treasure cruise.

Den Protector – This card is a control decks dream come true… Buying back a removal spell or one of your few win conditions can swing the game in your favor.

Silumgar the Drifting Death – Drifty D is VERY hard to kill and shuts down Elspeth… play it

Tasigur, the Golden Fang – 4/5 for less than 6 mana with a card advantage activated ability…. In a delve deck, belongs, this one does.

Satyr Wayfinder – Gets lands, allows you to play less lands, feeds delve… also blocks quick red decks usually. Play 5 if you can.

Hangarback Walker – Value town in a colorless creature seems to be the new craze. LET’S JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON.

Sidisi, Undead Visier – Kills rhino, has synergy with Wayfinder and Hangarback walker. Let’s play 1

Courser of Kruphix – I have no idea why some people refuse to play this card in Sultai control. It beats mono red, and gives you card advantage.

THE SPELLS:

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon – This card is still good…

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver – Rips green aggro decks a new one.

Sultai Charm – This card kills enchantments, loots, or kills mono colored creatures. The value!

Languish – Kills 99% of the creatures in this format.

The rest of the deck should be pretty straight forward. We are playing a delve deck that wants to remove everything while still over whelming your opponent with card quality.
This is the Version of the deck that I tested at an IQ recently

When I played this deck, I found it has a good matchup against a few of the formats best decks, but folds hard to monored and Jeskai midrange. Courser is an all star and should be in the Mainboard. Sultai Charm has insane synergy with Hangarbacks, and is a great cycle or ultimate price if you need it to be. After analysis, I’ve decided that this is the version of Sultai control I should be running.

Sultai Control 2.0

I know the updated list seems more midrange, but the decks very versatile in plenty of matchups. After playing Jeskai, I have decided a Sultai delve deck is where Jace belongs. Being able to delve away the graveyard to keep Jace as a looter, or having the ability of buying back removal or hand disruption can really swing a game in your favor.
