Foil Twilight Mire from Eventide is $70.00! Regular copies are $35 now, which is equally surprising. This card doesn’t even see that much play. It’s amazing how high these are considering the main contributor is supply rather than demand. This is a 1-of in modern BG variants, and otherwise sees play as a 1-of in commander and sometimes cube. Can you imagine how much shocklands would be if they didn’t reprint them in Return to Ravnica and Gatecrash?!

Did you know?

Foil Consecrated Sphinx from Mirrodin Beseiged is $50.00! I’m beginning to notice a pattern here; strong foil commander mythics can be worth an impressive amount. Not only is it nice to have your investment double or more in a few years, but considering the scarcity of these cards you will likely have commander players chomping at the bit to give you whatever you want. This could mean extra value or having access to cards that weren’t otherwise for trade.

With so many packs being opened these days and tons of copies of the same cards available; it really pays to stand out. Having high-end foils is one way to do that. The best time to pick them up is usually about 1 – 2 months after release. This gives the market some time to redeem online sets and for demand to be met. Sometimes they are just a known quantity and never really go down though. Take Thoughtseize for example. Foils started at $50 and haven’t budged, because everyone knows its good everywhere. The point being though, wait a month or 2 after it comes out to see if it goes down.
